Applicants must be officially nominated by their home universities before beginning the application process. Direct applications from students without nomination from partner institutions will not be accepted.

If you submit your study proposal in English, you must also provide proof of your Japanese language proficiency. The language used in classes and for communication on campus is Japanese. Exchange students are expected to have a high level of Japanese proficiency sufficient for academic and daily life on campus.

5. Statement of Purpose

Describe your reasons and study plan at Joshibi University in 750-800 letters in Japanese or 250-300 words in English focusing on what you would like to study as your major.(Preferably in Japanese)
The applicants who apply for the Concentration in Textile, Glass and Ceramics, Art and Culture (theoretical study) and Art Education (theoretical study) are required to write in Japanese.

The language in class and for communication on campus is Japanese. Joshibi will not provide you with any language translation service by staff or arrangement of a translator.

8. More information for COE application
Joshibi makes an application to Tokyo Regional Immigration Bureau for your Certificate of Eligibility (COE) on behalf of you once your application is permitted. This certificate is to prove that you are qualified for maintaining a resident status of 'College Student' during your study in Japan, and you must have a COE issued before applying for the visa. Joshibi needs to obtain the following information from you to apply for the Certificate.
